TARI_Food System Resilience Program

As part of the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) Tigray agricultural Research institute (TARI) was a major contributor and had implemented AGP II and showed good performance based on the midterm World Bank external evaluators report. As a continuation, the Ethiopian Food System Resilience Program (FSRP) supported by the World Bank program was officially launched on August 2023 in Tigray Region.

The research system designed under sub-component 1.2 Transforming agricultural Technology Generation and Research System will contribute to the PDO through, technology generation and production, technology promotion and capacity building to the research system. In general, this research subcomponent will work on 12 FSRP target districts of Tigray region (Raya-Alamata, Raya-Azebo, Raya-Chercher, Enda-Mekoni, Ofla, Tselemti, Tahtay-Koraro, Laelay-Koraro, Laelay-Maichew, Tsegede, Welqait and Kafta-Humera) in a total of 176 kebelles. The selected value chain commodities of the program are Cereals (Maize, Teff and Wheat); Pulses (Chickpea, Haricot Bean and Soybean); Horticulture and Coffee (Avocado, Coffee, Tomato, Onion and Potato); Oil seeds (Flax, Niger Seed, Sesame and Sunflower) and Livestock (Dairy, Fish, Honey, Poultry, and Red Meat/Fattening). For every research agenda, this program strictly follows to begin with a comprehensive agricultural production constraints assessment.
