Launching Workshop for Climate-Smart Livelihood Program in Tigray

Mekelle, Ethiopia – Nov. 17, 2024

A groundbreaking workshop is set to launch a new Climate-Smart Livelihood Program in Tigray, funded by the Embassy of Ireland in Ethiopia. The initiative aims to address the pressing challenges of climate change and food insecurity in the region.

A Collaborative Effort This ambitious program is the result of a collaborative effort between four key partners:

  • Tigray Bureau of Agriculture (TBoA)
  • Tigray Agricultural Research Institute (TARI)
  • Ethiopian Catholic Church Social and Development Commission Adigrat Branch (ECC-SDCOAdB)
  • World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF)

Addressing Climate Change and Food Insecurity The program will focus on:

  • Climate-Smart Agriculture: Implementing practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience to climate change.
  • Improved Livelihoods: Empowering smallholder farmers, particularly women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
  • Enhanced Food Security: Increasing agricultural productivity and ensuring year-round food availability.
  • Capacity Building: Training farmers and other stakeholders in climate-smart techniques and sustainable practices.

A Brighter Future for Tigray By working together, these partners aim to create a more sustainable and resilient future for the people of Tigray. The program will leverage the combined expertise and resources of the consortium to deliver tangible benefits to communities in need.

TARI Annual Review

Mekelle, Tigray – The Tigray Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) is set to hold its annual review from January 1 to 14, 2025, in Wukro, Tigray. This important event will bring together researchers, scientists, and other stakeholders to assess the progress made in the past year across various research areas, including crop science, livestock production, socio-economics, research extension, rural energy, and mechanization.

During the review, participants will discuss and analyze research findings, identify key achievements, and outline future research priorities. The event will also provide an opportunity to share experiences, collaborate on new initiatives, and strengthen partnerships.

By conducting this annual review, TARI aims to ensure the continued relevance and impact of its research activities in addressing the agricultural challenges faced by the Tigray region.
